Career Fair featured in "Spotlight on the Schools" article in the March 27, 2025, E-Edition of The Independent Herald on pages 22-26.
On Tuesday, March 25, over 350 seventh and eighth graders from each of the Scott County School District’s five schools set foot on the campus of Fairview Elementary School for the countywide career fair. The event was organized by FES counselor Brenda Smith.
“The goal was to form bigger and better partnerships between the Scott County Schools and all community entities- businesses, public services, government, higher education, and faith organizations,” Smith said. “We wanted to expose students to local job opportunities and educate them about various career paths available here in Scott County.”
Although the event was coordinated by Smith, the administration, staff, and students of Fairview helped carry out the vision. 46 businesses and community agencies were in attendance (10 more had to cancel at the last minute). The businesses came together to promote higher education and the local job force. Many of the businesses in attendance have previously made financial contributions toward the purchase of a much-needed floor covering for Fairview's gym which allows amazing events, such as this one, to be held comfortably in a great facility.
The faculty and staff would like to thank the following for their attendance and support of the career fair: Takahata, Great Dane, JDS, Halo Beauty, Esthetics by Harley, B&B Ice Cream, Scott County News, Vantage Point Financial, South Fork Physical Therapy, Blackberry Hollar Farm, Custom Greg’s, Northwestern Mutual, Timber Rock Lodge, Tommy’s Motorsports, BSF AERO, Coors Tek, Optician, Lawyer Jade Peters, County Mayor Jerried Jeffers, First National Bank, United Cumberland Bank, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Scott County Health Department, Omni, East 63 Fire Department, Pine Hill Fire Department, Big South Fork Park, TWRA, LifeStar, EMS, Highland Communications, Pastor Dilbert Terry, Scott County Clerk Felicia Bilbrey, 4H, Boys and Girls Club, InFaith, TAUD, Water Department, Farm Services Agency, National Resources Conservation, Rescue Squad, Ayers Foundation, Navy, Army National Guard, Roane State, TCAT.
