Scott County Schools Custodians were featured in "Spotlight on the Schools" article in August 29, 2024 E-Edition in The Independent Herald on pages 34 and 35.
Burchfield Elementary School
Burchfield School has been undergoing some changes and updates to improve the overall look of the school. The custodians, Nora Bernice Reynolds, Flora Evelyn Watson, Stacey Sole, and Isaac King have worked extremely hard this summer and since school started to make improvements. Along with the custodians, the sheriff’s work release program was able to provide 2-3 workers to assist with the school improvements during the month of July. All the hallway walls and most of the bathrooms have been painted, which provides an overall clean and fresh look. In the front lobby of Burchfield School, we have created a parent resource center that contains pamphlets and fliers for parents to take if needed. In addition to the parent resource center, we are in the process of creating a wall of canvas pictures. The pictures are of students and staff and their everyday lives at Burchfield. We feel that this wall will help encourage our goal of creating a sense of family and community within our building.
The custodians will continue to work on improving the look of the school each day. We hope to have many more projects completed within the next year.
Fairview Elementary School
Meet the custodians from Fairview!
Not only are these gentlemen the caretakers and groundskeepers of our campus, but they are also friends to our students and a beloved part of our Fairview Family. For instance, Mr. Harvey, who has been at Fairview for 15 years, is also the head coach of our boys’ soccer team, and he coordinates the concession stand at all of our games and events. Mr. Chris has worked at our school for the past 3 years. He is always very patient, calm, and kind – even when things get messy! Mr. Trae has just joined us this year, and already, he has lent such a helping hand and even refinished our elementary restroom floors without being asked – just to make our building look better. Together, these three make Fairview a cleaner and happier place for our kids to learn, and we thank them for it!
Huntsville Elementary School
Huntsville Elementary School custodians Robin Carroll and Josh Strunk took on extra projects over the summer, ensuring the school’s appearance was top-notch. They worked with and supervised Trustees from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department as they painted the hallways and applied fresh wax coats to floors in classrooms and common areas.
"It was our pleasure here at the Scott County Sheriff's Office to be able to provide Huntsville Elementary School with assistance of the Trustees from the Sheriff's department to do the much-needed painting throughout the school." - Sherriff Brian Keeton.
Despite the challenges of maintaining an older facility, Mr. Carroll and Mr. Strunk consistently go above and beyond, also handling lawn mowing and daily cleaning tasks. Both are known for their kindness and serve as role models for the students.
The new color scheme at HES brightens the hallways and highlights the school colors.
Huntsville Middle School
At HMS, we have two wonderful custodians, Ray Smithers and Chris Phillips. Ray and Chris are responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the school and summer projects. This summer we collaborated with Sheriff Brian Keeton to get two trustees. With the help of the trustees, Ray and Chris were able to get our floors waxed ahead of schedule, paint the entire school, pressure wash the field house, pressure wash sidewalks and other specific areas of the school, trim trees, collaborate with the Town of Huntsville for brush removal around the football field, update paint on the sidewalk, and help teachers move furniture from room to room. They worked all summer to upgrade the facility for students to enjoy.
Robbins Elementary School
Renee Bertram and Kelly Myers, Robbins Custodians, have updated our halls with their artwork!
Winfield Elementary School
The WES custodians are Cody Wilson and Brandi King. They spent the summer "sprucing up" the school and getting it ready for a new school year. Their jobs involve a variety of duties, and like many other school employees, they are oftentimes underappreciated.
One of Winfield School's major summer projects was painting the school interior halls, bathrooms, and lobby. This was accomplished by the Scott County Sheriff's Department inmates who worked really hard and did a fantastic job!
