Scott High School’s own Eric Henry has been named TSSAA Athletic Director of the Year for East Tennessee, a well-deserved recognition for his dedication and leadership over the past decade. With 10 years as Scott High’s athletic director, 28 years as an educator in the Scott County School System, and 13 years as assistant principal at Scott High, Mr. Henry’s commitment to the Highlanders is second to none.
In his time as athletic director, Mr. Henry has always advocated for student athletes at Scott High and worked tirelessly to bring opportunities their way despite living in an economically disadvantaged area.
Proof of this dedication has been his partnership with BSN Sports to bring free Nike shoes to our special education students in Mrs. Michelle Wisner’s class. Every year, Mr. Henry gathers a few student athletes and presents these shoes to the students. This initiative demonstrates not only the ability to pull in outside resources, but also instill a servant’s culture in our student athletes of giving back.
Last year, Mr. Henry extended his efforts beyond the school walls when he traveled to Nashville to advocate for Scott High to host the basketball district tournament for the first time in 12 years. Through his efforts, he was able to acquire letters from his fellow athletic directors within our district, supporting the hosting of the tournament. With support from TSSAA, Scott High was granted and hosted the 2023-2024 District Tournament.
We would like to congratulate Mr. Henry on his award and thank him for being devoted to Scott High School and Athletics throughout the years!
