Jeffers chosen as Region 2-A Coach of the Year
At the recent sectional tournament, SHS wrestling’s head coach Jason Jeffers was honored as the region 2-A coach of the year. Region 2-A includes 12 teams whose coaches voted for Jeffers to receive the award. The coach of the year title is given to just eight coaches across the state annually.
Although the Highlander wrestling program is only three years old, Coach Jeffers’s hard work has already paid off. Area coaches who visit campus routinely ask to see the Highlander wrestling room, which was built by Jeffers, and are impressed with the strides the program has made so quickly. They also appreciate the time Coach Jeffers puts into organizing home events and how his fundraising efforts have resulted in the program having three new wrestling mats, which is an impressive feat for any program.
Over the past three years, the Highlander wrestling program has been very competitive under Coach Jeffers’s leadership. They boast 778 individual match wins and 56 team dual wins, with a three-year average dual victory of 66%. At the conclusion of its third season, the team has 16 region placers, 11 substate qualifiers, and 1 state qualifier. Coach Jeffers notes that none of the team’s success would be possible without the hard work of the wrestlers and support of the school, student body, families, and sponsors.
