SCS Teachers of the Year: 2025-26

Scott County School's Teachers of the Year Recognized.
Posted on 01/20/2026

The goal of the Tennessee Teacher of the Year Program is to recognize and celebrate the wealth of excellent teachers that exist across the state. We applaud teachers who prioritize the needs of all children, who devote their professional lives to enriching the lives of Tennessee students and who demonstrate exceptional gains in student achievement.

Teachers of the Year are selected competitively through the cycles: school, district, region, grand division, and state in three grade bands: pre-K-elementary, middle, and high school. Our District Level Teachers of the Year will be announced at the next school board meeting.

Teachers selected at each cycle receive local recognition and awards underwritten by local sources. State recognition and awards include a banquet honoring the nine region-level Teachers of the Year.

The Tennessee Teacher of the Year also represents Tennessee in the National Teacher of the Year selection process, which is sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

2025-26 District PreK-4 Teacher of the Year

Stephanie Melton is a kindergarten teacher at Robbins Elementary School. This is her 19th year teaching, and all of those years have been spent in the Scott County School System. She and her husband, Jason, live in Robbins and have two children, Rubyann and Kevin. When she's not teaching, she loves to spend time with her family.

"I love teaching kindergarten. I love seeing my students learn new things and grow throughout the year. One of the joys of teaching kindergarten is the look of excitement they get when they master a skill after working hard, which makes my day! I hope all my past and present students know that I love them and that they can do anything they put their minds to."

District Teacher of the Year: Dr. Ryan Hoffman, SHS

Dr. Ryan Hoffman teaches Algebra 2, ACT Prep, and band at Scott High.  Ryan is in his 17th year at Scott and has led the SHS Marching Highlander band for all 17 of those years.  In those years, the Scott High Band has had numerous students selected for All-East Tennessee Band and two students selected for All-State. Ryan has seen many band students perform in band at the collegiate level after high school.

During his time in the Scott County school system, Ryan has served as an assistant coach for boy's and girls' soccer and as strength and conditioning coach for boy's and girls' basketball at Scott High. Currently, Ryan helps out Coach Chastian with Fairview soccer.

Ryan is married to fellow educator, Chastian Hoffman; they have two children in college: Jordana Lewis at Austin Peay studying criminal justice and Dominyk Lewis at TCAT-Jacksboro studying electrician.

"I love to teach! Teaching is a ministry. I know that when I show up and I'm there for my kids and providing them with enriching opportunities, I am actively seeking to make THEIR lives better."
