Message from our Director
It is with great excitement and honor that I welcome you to the Scott County School District website. As the new Director of Schools, I am excited about the opportunities that the 2026–27 school year will bring. While any transition comes with change, our vision and commitments will keep students at the center of every decision we make.

Meet our director…
Marc Taylor begins his 30th year in education with the start of the 2026–27 school year. He began his career at McCreary Central High School in Kentucky as a history teacher, assistant baseball coach, and certified athletic trainer.
During his 22 years with the McCreary County School District, Mr. Taylor served in a variety of leadership roles in both academics and athletics. In 2006, he was named head baseball coach, a position he held for 14 seasons. In 2018, he became an assistant principal, further expanding his leadership experience.
In 2019, Mr. Taylor became Principal of Williamsburg Independent School in Williamsburg, Kentucky. When he assumed the role, the middle school was identified for state assistance. Under his leadership, the school experienced a remarkable turnaround. By the 2022–23 school year, Williamsburg Independent School District was ranked the 13th-best school district in Kentucky out of 172 districts. During that year, the elementary school earned the state's highest accountability rating of Blue, while the high school received the second-highest rating of Green. Most notably, the middle school improved from the bottom five percent of schools statewide to the top 50 percent in just two years.
At the beginning of the 2024–25 school year, Mr. Taylor was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Williamsburg Independent School District. During his tenure, the district completed a $3.5 million renovation of its football stadium, fully renovated its Board of Education offices, and implemented significant district-wide security upgrades. In total, he served the Williamsburg Independent School District for six years.
During the 2025–26 school year, Mr. Taylor served as Principal of Scott High School before being named Director of Schools for Scott County.
Mr. Taylor earned his bachelor's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Kentucky. He later received both his master's degree and Rank I certification from the University of the Cumberlands. In 2022, he completed the university's Superintendent Certification Program. He is also an active member of the Elgin Foundation and completed certification through the National Institute for School Leadership in 2020.
Mr. Taylor and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Tanner and Marcy. They attend First Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
