Student Testing in Scott County Schools
Students in Scott County Schools take different kinds of tests at the classroom, district, and state levels.
State Testing:
- All students in grades 2–8 take the TCAP Achievement Test in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
- Second graders also take state reading and math tests.
- At Scott High School, students take End-of-Course (EOC) exams in the following subjects:
- English 9
- English 10
- Algebra 1
- Geometry
- Algebra 2
- U.S. History
- Biology
Testing for Special Services:
- Students who receive special support services may take additional tests required by the state.
- English language learners (ELL) in grades K–8 take the WIDA ACCESS test in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
- ELL students in grades 2–8 also take the regular TCAP test.
- Students who qualify for alternate testing take the TCAP ALT exam instead of the regular TCAP.
District Testing:
- All students in grades K–8 take the MAP test (Measures of Academic Progress) in reading and math three times a year.
- This test shows students' skill levels in areas like phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, numbers, algebra, and geometry.
- Parents will receive reports about their child’s MAP results.
- Teachers use these results to adjust instruction to meet each student’s needs.
Extra Support Testing:
- Students who are behind in reading or math take extra tests like the EasyCBM and Survey Level Assessments to help find the best support for them.
Classroom Testing:
- Teachers also use their own methods to check how well students are learning and adjust teaching as needed.
